Scandinavian Literature, The Romantic period

The Romantic movement came to Denmark from Germany, inspired partly by the German Jena Romantics and partly by the Neoclassicism of Goethe and Schiller. Friedrich Schelling's philosophy was interpreted in Denmark by the Norwegian Henrik Steffens, but the leading Danish Romantics gave it a form very different from the original.
